India-UK CETA creates a market access opportunity for Indian Rubber manufacturers
|
| |
|

The India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) took effect on 15 July 2026, creating a new framework for bilateral trade and market access. The agreement is relevant to Indian manufacturers seeking to expand exports to the United Kingdom, although the benefits for individual products depend on the applicable tariff schedule, rules of origin and other conditions.
India's non-tyre rubber industry supplies a wide range of products that may be relevant to UK buyers, including industrial hoses, rubber seals, gaskets, conveyor belts, vibration control components, moulded parts and rubber products used in construction, machinery and industrial maintenance. Manufacturers with specialized technical capabilities may be able to explore opportunities with distributors, equipment manufacturers and industrial procurement companies.
Preferential tariff treatment, where applicable, can improve the landed price competitiveness of Indian products. However, exporters must establish the correct HS classification, check the product specific rules of origin and comply with the agreement's documentation requirements. A product manufactured in India does not necessarily qualify automatically for preferential treatment; the relevant origin criteria must be met.
The agreement should be treated as a market development opportunity rather than a guarantee of increased sales. Its value will depend on whether Indian manufacturers can offer consistent quality, competitive pricing, reliable delivery and the technical documentation expected by UK customers.
