MSMEs Urged to Improve Quality and Cost Competitiveness to Benefit from FTAs

India's expanding network of free trade agreements is creating opportunities for micro, small and medium enterprises to access overseas markets. However, MSME Ministry Secretary Bharat Khera has stressed that businesses must strengthen product quality and cost competitiveness to translate preferential market access into export growth. For non-tyre rubber manufacturers, including producers of seals, hoses, moulded components, industrial belts and engineered rubber products, the opportunity lies in meeting international specifications while maintaining competitive pricing. Exporters also need to understand destination market standards, certification requirements, rules of origin and documentation procedures. The message is particularly relevant to smaller suppliers seeking to become part of international manufacturing supply chains, where compliance, delivery reliability and consistency are as important as price.
