GST Council Approves Major Reforms to Simplify Compliance for Businesses
| |

The 57th GST Council meeting has approved a series of procedural reforms aimed at making India's indirect tax system more business friendly. The measures cover registration, input tax credit, refunds, return corrections and enforcement procedures. The Council also agreed to changes intended to reduce excessive punitive action against businesses and improve compliance efficiency. For rubber product manufacturers, component suppliers and MSMEs, the reforms could help reduce administrative burdens and make routine tax processes more predictable. However, businesses should distinguish between recommendations announced by the Council and provisions that become effective through subsequent notifications or amendments. The changes are part of a wider effort to improve ease of doing business without announcing a fresh round of GST rate reductions at this meeting.
