India is considering extending the Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products (RoDTEP) scheme beyond its September 30 deadline, according to a Reuters report published September 16. The Commerce Ministry has reportedly sought funding of Rs.23,000 crore for the scheme for 2026-27. RoDTEP reimburses eligible embedded taxes and duties that are not refunded through other mechanisms. For India's rubber product manufacturers, export support measures are important because the sector includes a large base of MSMEs producing industrial rubber goods, footwear, hoses, belts, seals and other products for overseas markets. Continued export incentives could help manufacturers manage embedded costs and maintain competitiveness in international markets. The development comes amid wider efforts by Indian exporters to navigate freight costs, changing trade regulations and competitive pressure from Asian manufacturing hubs. Any extension or modification of RoDTEP would therefore be closely watched by rubber product exporters.
