The global natural rubber sector is entering a period in which traceability, sustainability and smallholder participation are becoming increasingly important. The Sustainable Natural Rubber Forum 2026 highlighted the need to place smallholders at the centre of the industry's future as the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) approaches implementation.

This has important implications for Indian rubber processors and non-tyre manufacturers supplying international markets. European buyers are increasingly looking beyond product specifications and asking where raw rubber originates, whether supply chains are traceable and whether production complies with environmental and social requirements.

For MSMEs, compliance can be challenging because traceability systems require documentation, digital records and closer coordination with suppliers. However, the shift can also become a competitive opportunity for Indian manufacturers.

Companies that can demonstrate responsible sourcing and traceable natural rubber may gain an advantage with international buyers seeking compliant supply chains.

For India, the issue is particularly important because natural rubber remains a strategic domestic raw material. Strengthening traceability at the plantation, processor and manufacturer levels could help Indian exporters meet evolving European requirements while improving supply-chain visibility.
