Government agencies are continuing to strengthen awareness among MSMEs on export-import procedures, documentation and international trade requirements. A recent programme organized by the MSME Development & Facilitation Office, Nagpur, focused specifically on Export-Import Policy and export-related issues facing businesses.
Although not exclusively a rubber-industry programme, the development is particularly relevant to India's rubber MSME ecosystem. The non-tyre rubber sector has a large base of small and medium manufacturers producing moulded components, industrial rubber goods, footwear components, seals, gaskets, hoses, conveyor products, medical rubber items and other specialized products.
Many such companies possess manufacturing capabilities but face difficulties in navigating international documentation, customs procedures, certificates of origin, foreign exchange rules, product standards and overseas compliance.
The government's increasing focus on export preparedness could help bridge this gap. The DGFT's Foreign Trade Policy ecosystem also provides MSMEs with dedicated resources such as an E-Commerce Exports Handbook, Niryat Portal, trade statistics and export-promotion information.
For rubber MSMEs, the opportunity is significant: digital trade platforms and simplified procedures can allow smaller manufacturers to reach overseas customers without depending entirely on traditional intermediaries.
