Trade Policy focus shifts towards strategic chemicals

Recent trade policy developments indicate an increasing emphasis on protecting India's domestic manufacturing of high-value specialty chemicals, particularly those used in the rubber and allied industries. Through a series of investigations and trade remedy measures, the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) is focusing on addressing unfair trade practices while strengthening the country's manufacturing ecosystem.

Specialty rubber chemicals are critical inputs for the production of tyres, industrial rubber goods, automotive components, and other engineering products. Ensuring the availability of competitively manufactured domestic chemicals is considered essential for improving supply chain resilience and reducing excessive dependence on imports.

Industry experts view these policy measures as part of a broader strategy to encourage investment in India's chemical manufacturing sector, enhance technological capabilities, and improve long-term self-reliance. A stronger domestic specialty chemical industry is expected to support the overall growth of the rubber manufacturing sector while contributing to the country's industrial development objectives.
