Maharashtra cabinet clears independent MSME commissionerate

The Maharashtra Cabinet has approved the establishment of an independent MSME Commissionerate, addressing a long-standing demand from industry stakeholders to create a dedicated administrative body for the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector. Announced during the Maharashtra MSME Summit & Awards 2026, the initiative aims to strengthen policy implementation, improve coordination of government schemes, and accelerate industrial development across the state. Industries Minister Uday Samant also announced a 20% concession on industrial plots for MSMEs, additional tax incentives to encourage investments, and the launch of a district-wise industrial grievance redressal programme ("Janata Darbar"), where senior officials will directly address entrepreneurs' concerns. The state is also drafting a new MSME policy focused on technology adoption, exports, cluster-based industrial development, plug-and-play infrastructure, and smart manufacturing centres, while Maharashtra continues to lead India in attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).
