India-New Zealand Trade Deal: Zero-duty Access for 100% of Indian Exports

India and New Zealand have concluded a comprehensive free trade agreement or FTA, marking a significant economic and strategic expansion of India's footprint in the pacific region. This is also the third free trade agreement India has secured in 2025. Indian prime minister Narendra Modi described the pact as a people-centric partnership aligned with India's long-term development goals.

The government has confirmed the conclusion of free trade negotiations with India with significant wins for several industries - but limited gains for dairy. But NZ First is withholding support - which means it is now in the hands of the opposition whether it passes or not.

Almost 57 percent of exports would be duty free from day one of the agreement coming into force, increasing to 82 per cent when fully implemented, with the remaining 13 per cent subject to sharp tariff cuts.
