EUDR Overview Relevant to Rubber
EUDR mandates that rubber products imported into the EU must be deforestation-free, and fully traceable back to the plot of land where the rubber was grown. Applies to natural rubber and derivative products (tires, footwear, rubber sheets, etc.).
Importers must submit Due Diligence Statements and geo-coordinates of sourcing plots to the EU’s centralized system (EUIS) starting 30 December 2024 (Revised 30th Dec 2025)
Significance for India
India is one of the largest producers of natural rubber, with over 1.2 million smallholder farmers and 884,000 Ha of Rubber plantation. Major Indian exports to the EU include compound rubber, and rubber based products(e.g., tires, Latex, gloves, Automotive products). States like Kerala, Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya, Tamil Nadu, dominate cultivation.
Compliance Readiness
The Rubber Board of India, along with technology partner TRST01, is leading traceability efforts via the iNSR platform (Indian Natural Rubber Traceability). Over 884,000 hectares of rubber plantations are being mapped with GeoJSON coordinates. Exporters can get a Traceability Certificate, Due Diligence Declaration, and geo-data required for EUDR.
Exporters' Role
Indian exporters must register with the Rubber Board for EUDR compliance. Ensure traceability of rubber back to plantations. Pay a one time registration fee, annual membership, and compliance certificate fee per consignment. SMEs/MSMEs have a separate, subsidized fee structure.
Industry Implications
EUDR compliance will become a non-tariff trade barrier if not met. Non-compliant exporters may lose access to the €16 billion+ EU rubber product market. Compliance opens opportunities for premium pricing, market trust, and sustainability linked trade incentives.
