Geo-mapping of natural rubber plantations to begin in Dakshina Kannada, Karnataka, India
|
|

The digital mapping effort of the rubber board will begin in Dakshina Kannada district in Karnataka and will later expand to other areas of the state. Through this initiative, land ownership, area, and boundaries of rubber holdings will be mapped. Since natural rubber and its products fall under the goods listed by the European Union for deforestation-free regulations, the board initiated steps to implement natural rubber certification under the Indian Sustainable Natural Rubber (ISNR) and to comply with the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), stated a release from the rubber board's regional office in Mangaluru.
The board entrusted Trayambhu Tech Solutions Pvt Ltd with the task of developing mandatory supply chain mapping and traceability systems as per the EUDR rules. The board is conducting 100% polygon mapping of all rubber plantations. In a significant effort to enhance the global status of Indian natural rubber while boosting domestic production, the rubber board initiated steps to implement certification of natural rubber/rubber products under the Indian Sustainable Natural Rubber to comply with the EUDR.
As part of the compliance with the EUDR, supply chain mapping, development systems traceability, and geo-mapping of plantations are prerequisites for this process. The rubber board has already started geo-mapping natural rubber plantations in Karnataka.
This digital mapping effort initially focuses on Dakshina Kannada and will later expand to other areas of the state. The collected data will be stored in a centralized database organised by the rubber board, ensuring data confidentiality, as stated in a release.
