Staying true to its mission of promoting and developing the rubber industry, the All India Rubber Industries Association (AIRIA) - Western Region recently hosted a landmark Technical Seminar in early August at Fairfield by Marriott, Ahmedabad. The event served as a pivotal educational platform, offering delegates a comprehensive view of the latest technological advancements and industry trends.

The seminar began with a traditional lamp lighting ceremony, symbolizing the inauguration of knowledge and wisdom. The ceremony was attended by prominent industry figures including Shashi Kumar Singh, President of AIRIA; Ravindra Barde, Chairman of AIRIA's Western Region; Dharmesh Dhanani, Editor of Rubber India; Hemant Tibrewala, Chairman of AIRIA's Gujarat Chapter; Hitesh Mahnot, Vice Chairman of AIRIA's Gujarat Chapter; and notable representatives from the Rubber Manufacturers Welfare Association (RMWA).

In his address, Shashi Kumar Singh, President, AIRIA, encouragingly expressed, "The rubber industry is a vital sector, contributing significantly to our country's economic growth. We face a lot of challenges, but with these challenges comes opportunity to innovate, upgrade, adopt and grow. This Technical Seminar is such a platform for us to discuss about the latest trends, technologies, and innovations in the rubber industry. Let us engage in meaningful discussions, ask questions, and learn from each other. Let us work together to take the rubber industry to new heights".

Originally planned as a technical and networking initiative, the event evolved into a bustling business gathering. Provisions were initially made for around 100+ delegates, but the overwhelming response led to over 170+ registrations, resulting in the closure of further registrations at the venue. Amidst this enthusiastic turnout, the dignitaries unveiled the newly revamped Rubber India magazine, AIRIA's official mouthpiece. The refreshed design and content of the monthly publication were well-received by industry professionals.

During the unveiling, Mr. Dhanani, Editor of Rubber India, highlighted the dedication and effort involved in curating the magazine each month. He extended an invitation to industry experts to contribute by sharing case studies, authored articles, and insights in their areas of expertise. Additionally, he encouraged businesses to explore the abundant advertising opportunities available within the publication.

The seminar featured a series of insightful presentations by industry leaders, each addressing critical topics relevant to the rubber sector:

  • Rashmi Jaiswal of Polmann India Limited delivered an in-depth presentation on "Special Elastomers Therban® (HNBR) & Baypren® (CR)" manufactured by Arlanxeo. Ms. Jaiswal explained the unique properties and applications of these high-performance elastomers, emphasizing their suitability for demanding environments. Therban® (HNBR) is known for its exceptional heat, oil, and chemical resistance, making it ideal for automotive and industrial applications. Baypren® (CR), on the other hand, offers excellent weather, ozone, and chemical resistance, making it a preferred choice in the production of cables, hoses, and belts.
  • Arpit Chaudhary of SRI Marbo India Private Limited focused on enhancing productivity and profitability with SRI Marbo Release. Mr. Chaudhary's presentation highlighted the benefits of using release agents in rubber manufacturing processes, which help in reducing cycle times, improving surface finish, and extending mold life. By optimizing these factors, manufacturers can achieve significant cost savings and enhance overall efficiency.
  • Soumil Shah, Chief Convenor of the National Rubber Conference 2024, Mumbai (NRC 2024, Mumbai), provided a comprehensive overview of the upcoming conference. Mr. Shah emphasized the importance of NRC 2024 as a platform for industry stakeholders to exchange ideas, discuss challenges, and explore new opportunities. The conference is expected to feature keynote speeches, panel discussions, and exhibitions that will cover a wide range of topics, from technological advancements to sustainability practices in the rubber industry.
  • Dharmesh Dhanani, Editor of Rubber India, delivered a detailed presentation on the magazine's new direction. Mr. Dhanani discussed the editorial focus on delivering high quality content that addresses the latest industry trends, technological innovations, and market developments. He also encouraged industry professionals to contribute articles and case studies, thereby making Rubber India a richer resource for its readers.
  • RD Barhatt, Joint Commissioner of Industries, Government of Gujarat, presented on the incentive schemes under the state's industrial policy. Mr. Barhatt elaborated on the various financial incentives, subsidies, and support programs available to rubber manufacturers in Gujarat. These incentives are designed to encourage investment, promote innovation, and enhance the competitiveness of the rubber sector within the state.
  • Jenish Dhamelia of Mitsufuku Compound Private Limited spoke on advanced polymer solutions. Mr. Dhamelia's presentation covered the latest developments in polymer technology, with a focus on custom compound formulations that address specific performance requirements. He discussed the growing demand for high performance polymers in sectors such as automotive, aerospace, and consumer goods, and how Mitsufuku is meeting these needs with innovative solutions.
  • Saif Mohammad, CEO of RCPSDC, led a SAMVAAD Dialogue on the evolving business ecosystem, trends, and skill development opportunities within the rubber sector. Mr. Mohammad emphasized the need for continuous skill development to keep pace with technological advancements and changing market demands. He outlined various training programs and certification courses offered by RCPSDC, aimed at upskilling the workforce and enhancing industry standards.
  • Dr. Aji MN of HF India Mixing Systems Private Limited presented on advanced developments in mixing technology. Dr. Aji's presentation focused on the latest innovations in rubber mixing technology, including high efficiency mixers, automated control systems, and process optimization techniques. He highlighted how these advancements can lead to improved product quality, reduced material waste, and lower production costs.
  • D.S. Desai of Polmann India Limited highlighted the significance of Polymer Bound Rubber Chemicals (PBRC) from Ningbo Actimix, which are essential for improving the efficiency and safety of rubber processing. These PBRCs ensure a more uniform distribution of chemicals in rubber compounds, leading to enhanced performance and consistent quality. Additionally, Strucktol's rubber processing additives play a crucial role in optimizing production by improving flow and reducing processing time. The Anti-tack Agent from Barbe, Germany, further enhances the process by preventing rubber layers from sticking together, ensuring smooth handling and storage. Together, these innovations streamline and enhance rubber manufacturing processes.
  • Prafulla Patil, a Rubber Technologist, provided insights into the reverse engineering of rubber products. Mr. Patil's presentation delved into the process of reverse engineering, where existing rubber products are analyzed to determine their material composition, design specifications, and manufacturing methods. This approach allows manufacturers to reproduce or improve upon existing products, ensuring compatibility with modern production techniques and meeting evolving customer demands.

The seminar concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Hitesh Mahnot, Vice Chairman of AIRIA-Western Region's Gujarat Chapter.
