Construction begins on tire recycling plant in Sweden

For an industry searching for solutions to sustainable materials scale-up, at least one answer is taking shape. Construction began Feb. 13 on a tire recycling plant in Uddevalla, marking a major step forward for the joint venture partnership with Scandinavian Enviro A.B., Antin Infrastructure partners and Michelin. The facility, which will be the first full-scale recycling plant to based on Enviro's patented technology, is expected to come online in 2025.

"It's fantastic that we're now underway with the construction of our first full-scale recycling plant," Enviro Chairman Alf Blomqvist said in a statement. "This plant is our flagship and the first in an extensive European initiative where, together with Antin, we aim to recycle 1 million metric tons of tires by 2030, a third of all end-of-life tires in Europe. We are, of course, very happy on a day like today".

In its initial phase, the facility ramp-up will bring with 40 jobs. Enviro noted in a news release that the permit for the plant does allow for expansion, which could bring with it additional jobs.
