It was bought out during the interactive meetings with Honorable Minister for Commerce & Industry that some countries do not give fair access to their markets for Indian exporters by creating non-tariff barriers with stringent conditionality's in order to protect their domestic industry which otherwise not possible through tariff measures.  Minister understanding concerns of Indian industry has requested the industries to bring such events/policies of those countries to Govt's knowledge so that Govt. of India can act against them appropriately either through negotiations or through reciprocal barriers.

As per the news item in the 'Economic Ties' dated 11 Dec 2019, Honorable Minister, while addressing an event organised by Exim Bank has said that the government will stop other countries from participating in local contracts unless Indian firms are given a similar opportunity.

"Unless we get reciprocal access to those markets, the government has decided that we will stop giving them an opportunity to participate in contracts in India. In view of the present mood of the Govt to come with all our efforts to save domestic economy, AIRIA would like to know from members who are exporters their feedback on such Non-Tariff restrictions if any, faced by them from other countries denying them a fair playing field so that we can take up with Govt of India for forming appropriate policy for response.

In fact MoC, Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade has called for such measures specifically by Indonesia, Korea and China for immediate attention.
